In Spain, I discovered that I am a painter, a very different kind of painter.
I do not possess the painter’s skills to envision the painting in my head and then produce it. I also learned that not having this ability is not an issue because I can tap into my strength – photography. I can comfortably previsualize a photographic image, create it, and then translate the composition to life on the canvas.
I applied that knowledge and desire to cross and combine disciplines, and started painting from my photographs, using them as a design for the paintings.
It is interesting; I always want my photographs to resemble paintings, blurring the line between the two, so creating paintings from my images is an intriguing yet natural extension of my practice.
