super 8

Estas bien? NO., Super 8, black and white, no sound, 3’01’’

It was always at the back of my mind, the cinematography. As a Photographer, I often thought about making short films, but then studying photography full-time would ‘get in the way’. The student exchange in Spain allowed me to explore areas that had always been there in the background, patiently waiting for me to discover them.

The experimental cinema, particularly Super 8, has been an absolute breakthrough and a confirmation that my artistic instincts were correct; in fact, they were and always are on point. Listen to your inner voice.

One main thing that stands out in my movie is that I film how I photograph. Light and shadow games, soaked through in geometrical aesthetics, symbolism, brutalism and silent poetry that speaks more than words.

Estas bien? NO. is a story filled with symbolism of my experience of coming to and living in Spain whilst on a student exchange.

Drawing inspiration from experimental cinema, I employ metaphors to convey my emotions of feeling lost and navigating challenging times.

Simultaneously, it’s a tale of independence, strength, and perseverance.
