When I think of my home, I immediately think of hundreds of decorations, photos, plants, lights, and trinkets that fill up a small space of a narrowboat. Every wall and even ceiling is a form of expression. With this in mind, following the theme of home and the method of mistakes, I picked up my camera and pointed it at fairy lights and bunting in my bedroom. With the thought from the project description ringing in my mind, ”let chance play a part” I decided not to change any settings and go with what they were, letting things happen, losing control. Letting it be what it would probably never be if the approach from the project wasn’t applied. Like in a meditative state – just simply observing life what it is. I was pleased with the grainy effect, texture, and mood of this photograph, but most of all, I was relishing the feeling of freedom and randomness of the unknown.
I have a feeling it’s going to be a very eye-opening, boundary-breaking, and ego battling project. I am sincerely looking forward to it. To defy everything that I know, that I have learned, and look at the world with a fresh, freer than ever perspective is evidently the path of a growing artist.
Currently, I am reading David Bate’s ”Photography”. There is one thing that stuck with me notably, one thing I have written down in capital letters when making notes. ”Originality or invention creates change within (and across) a genre”.
Without breaking boundaries, without evolving, developing, imagination, and freedom, there would be no movement of progress and exploration.
